Zombies and a pumpkin! (A few snaps of my halloween weekend)

The zombie photos were taken from the Zombie Walk in Glasgow yesterday. I'm not too ashamed to say that I think it is one of the coolest things ever! XD Once a year, hundreds of folk gather dressed as zombies and act like a zombie for about an hour. I went last year too and this year the turnout was much bigger. I'm pretty sure there are walks like this throughout the UK.
I also carved a pumpkin which was about the size of a fully grown labrador dog. ^_^

Recent Life Drawing

Quick poses, 3 minutes to 30 seconds. I bloomin love quick poses, the model we had last night was really great as well, she gave some really great poses. I'd love to go to an actual gesture drawing class though, when I look at all these American animation blogs filled with gesture drawings, their life models are more like actors and sometimes they are in costume.

Possible Christmas card

Just trying to get them made up soon, it's the first year I've decided to print a batch. I came across some 'Doctor Hoo' fan art a while back and thought it was the cutest thing ever and naturally seen as my Christmas is pretty much centered around Doctor Who nowadays, I figured it would be festive to have this idea. I just need to come up with some sort of greeting to put on it, one filled with puns and cheese. ^_^

Recent Life Drawing

Most life drawing classes I go to have artists from all levels, but this term I've noticed that most of them are at a beginners level, which is really good for me! I get to go back to basics and improve on my technique but the first couple of weeks have been frustrating. I can't believe how bad I've been all because I've had my conté taken away from me! I guess I didn't realise how much I rely on tone for accuracy - the above picture was drawn with line only and you can probably see the numerous alterations.

Recent Life Drawing & Dance sketches

Both drawings above are five different continuous lines drawings (same pose rotated five times) but the drawing on left was a blind drawing where I wasn't allowed to look at my paper.

Foreshortening exercise, conté, half-hour-ish.

So you think you can dance season 7 started this week! I watch this show religiously and these sketches are poses from one of my favourite routines from last season 'At the Moment' danced by the two runner ups, Kathryn and Jakob. I'll have to do a blog about dance and put some of my favourite dance clips up.

Recent Life Drawing & 017/100

We weren't allowed to draw any lines, which was firstly, something I've never done before so I guess it was slightly challenging at first and secondly, it doesn't feel accurate if I call it a drawing. The way I used the charcoal was almost like a painting (another thing I don't really do). It was fun though, something for next time!

Duration: about 20 mins

Deadline Approaching!

So Easter has come and gone and my big deadline is ever so near! so as you can imagine I'm very very busy right now.

Luckily a couple of weeks ago I allowed myself a little break and by little I mean a morning walk in the park.  Its nice to see that Spring is finally here.

And here is a frame from my film, I guess it's like a little teaser:

I'll be posting a full portfolio, show reel and all that malarkie real soon and hopefully it'll be presented in a spiffy new website.

Repo! The Genetic Opera

(A little sketch of the Repo Man)

I finally got to watch this movie last night and I had a ridiculously incredible time.  One of the creators and the director was there to not only introduce and do a Q & A but get pished afterwards, haha.

I've lifted this straight from my post I made on the Repo Forums:

I haven't managed to sleep at all - it's like I'm on some crazy Repo high.

First of all, it was great meeting other Repo fans. I'm not really sure what kind of impression I left but I'm going to go ahead and apologize if I made anyone feel awkward - I tend to do that because I'm really shy and just plain retarded >.>
Anaesthesia - your outfit was well amazing, I loved the scars!
Nooperz - you put us all to shame with you zydrate and lepricaun graverobber and I couldn't agree more about having any Repo-related event!
and I'm really sorry there was a lovely bunch of people there who I met but I didn't really catch many names, either way you guys rock and I'll be sure to stick my photos up later. I look feckin awful in the one and only photo I have of me with DLB and TZ, somehow nerves got the better of me and nevermind fixing my hair or trying to position my body in a slightly more flattering position but for the love of god I was trying so hard to lift simply the corners of my mouth into something that resembles smile but the nerves and the excitement paralyzed my face! I'm dreading to see any other photos of me.

I loved that out of all the little treats I gave the guys, DLB said 'thanks for the ALCOHOL', dually noted for next time. It was also great that he didn't notice my horrid glaswegian accent until I blew my cover by saying a 'wee bit'. DLB's fiance, was also incredibly loverly! when she found out I was an animator and asked whether I wanted to work abroad, to which I replied yes, she suggested that I should marry Terrence. I realize that that isn't even remotely close to any proposal but believe me her saying something silly like that is more than enough to satisfy this simple fangirl!

My amazing networking skills (not!) failed me when it came to talking to TZ. It was mostly my fault for being so shy but I'm gonna have to give props to the ocean of girls slowly drowning him through the night. They had some serious strategies going on - cornering him, surrounding him at the bar - poor guy never had a chance, haha.

The film really turned out amazing and I hope there will be other chances of watching it on a big screen. Anthony Stewart Head completely blew me away and I love Giles even more now!

I think the best thing that came out of the night was that I realized, more so than ever, that DLB and TZ are exactly the kind of filmmakers/artists I want to be. I don't want to work for money or fame or create something for critics or awards, I want to completely dedicate myself to something I absolutely love and work on projects I truly believe in. I'm now really excited about finishing art school now and this was just the little kick I needed to get me through my last two months before I step into the 'real' world. Haha, this post could turn into a shameless plug about my work but all I'm gonna say is "website coming soon!"

MON THE REPO!!!

My high is just about waring off and I'm crashing real hard X3

My Desk

For those interested in what my little workspace looks like! This is my desk in my room at home - its far more interesting than the studios I have to use at the art college and right behind the desk on the other side of my room is another desk with my lightbox.  I wanted to take photos of that too because its design is different from your typical lightbox plus it was handmade but the light recently died and I haven't found the time to get a new one!

Life Drawing

We did five minute poses this week, which were so much fun! It had been a while since I drew short poses and I don't think I've drawn in pen at all this year, so I'm glad I didn't struggle too much.  Our wonderfully 'eager' model brought in these massive helium balloons for the first half, which was interesting...
But yeah, it reminded me of this drawing exercise I read in Patrick Smiths Blog, where you draw out spheres and place characters around them, so I gave that a shot earlier today and it is a really nice way to loosen you and warm you up!

My Flower Boys and organ repossession obsession!

One of my biggest obsessions at the moment is the Korean television adaptation of Hana Yori Dango - Boys before Flowers.  I've always found Asian dramas some what of a guilty pleasure because quite frankly they are awful! They're usually a combination of bad writing and bad acting with ridiculously pretty actors and addictive storylines.  Or at least this was the formula used for Meteor Garden which was the Taiwanese adaptation of Hana Yori Dango.

Boys Before Flowers is so much ridiculously better than Meteor Garden!  Ten episodes of Meteor Garden were basically condensed into five for Boys Before Flowers, which works so much better.  The story has a wonderful amount of drama, however things actually make more sense.  The relationships are all developing really nicely, love triangles galore! and naturally the cast is gorgeous!

Even Wall-E is hooked!
(Sorry, I couldn't help myself!)

My other current obsession is Repo! the Genetic Opera.  Its a movie starring Anthony Stewart Head, Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino and Paris Hilton - I know, that is on hell of a cast and it all works so magically well!  I have been waiting for this movie for over a year and a half now and now finally the movie comes to Scotland in a couple weeks time! I've booked my ticket already and I'm dead excited!
