Life Drawing in Colour

A2, Gouache/charcoal/pastel/chalk, 30 mins

I have never drawn anything like this before.  Everyone in the class had to first under paint their paper and the draw on top of it once it was dry.  It was a really bizarre process of drawing by instinct and balancing the colour, and putting the mark-making first rather than the 'correct' line and observation.  I'm definitely learning lots in this class!

Life Drawing

20 minutes, A2, charcoal and pastel
My first life drawing with colour class! The teacher is easing us into using colour - I even panicked a tiny bit when I first started to lay down a little of that orange/brown colour.  I do try to work with colour OUTSIDE of life drawing but I don't think I've ever used it like this with charcoal.  Fun times ahead!

Recent Life Drawing

First life drawing in a while and it was a class with two models so I struggled quite a bit!  Don't think I've ever done a class with two models before... I start a new block of classes soon though, except it's a 'life drawing in colour' class, I've never done that before either but it was the only life drawing available to me for the next two months and I desperately need some classes, plus I'm sure learning how to colour would do me a world of good! It's going to be so difficult, I can tell that now!

York and Chester Zoo sketches

Two quick sketches from my wee trip to York last week, one of which was in the National Railway Museum. Spent more time shopping than sketching really, the town looks just like something from Harry Potter!

Also spent a day at Chester Zoo. I'm embarrassed at how much fun I had at this zoo because it just shows how little I've traveled to more exotic countries. Just a few sketches here but I did manage to fill up a whole book! Lots of great ideas and inspirations for fun little characters which I hope to create this week - there was this one orangutan that kept doing rolly-pollies!

Possible Christmas card

Just trying to get them made up soon, it's the first year I've decided to print a batch. I came across some 'Doctor Hoo' fan art a while back and thought it was the cutest thing ever and naturally seen as my Christmas is pretty much centered around Doctor Who nowadays, I figured it would be festive to have this idea. I just need to come up with some sort of greeting to put on it, one filled with puns and cheese. ^_^

Life Drawing

We did five minute poses this week, which were so much fun! It had been a while since I drew short poses and I don't think I've drawn in pen at all this year, so I'm glad I didn't struggle too much.  Our wonderfully 'eager' model brought in these massive helium balloons for the first half, which was interesting...
But yeah, it reminded me of this drawing exercise I read in Patrick Smiths Blog, where you draw out spheres and place characters around them, so I gave that a shot earlier today and it is a really nice way to loosen you and warm you up!

Life Drawing

Here's a few from last semester.  My tutors exact words were "solid but not very exciting" which is completely understandable because I was really lazy last semester -  I just stuck with pencil and paper. We've had a couple weeks of life drawing for this semester and I've tried to use other mediums so I'll photograph some and put some more recent work up soon.
