Dancer

I managed to take a one-off drawing class the other day where we got to draw a group of young ballet dancers doing bar exercises.  I didn't get as many solid drawings as I would have liked to as the class was very much aimed at folk who hadn't had much experience with life drawing, so we did a lot of expressive exercises where the outcomes were meant to be quite abstract.  It was still a fun class though! a nice change from your typical life drawing classes where the model sits on a stool for two hours.

York and Chester Zoo sketches

Two quick sketches from my wee trip to York last week, one of which was in the National Railway Museum. Spent more time shopping than sketching really, the town looks just like something from Harry Potter!

Also spent a day at Chester Zoo. I'm embarrassed at how much fun I had at this zoo because it just shows how little I've traveled to more exotic countries. Just a few sketches here but I did manage to fill up a whole book! Lots of great ideas and inspirations for fun little characters which I hope to create this week - there was this one orangutan that kept doing rolly-pollies!

Old Batman drawing (cheat entry :P)

I actually went back to life drawing tonight but the long break - holidays plus canceled classes due to snow - has erm...left me out of practise. Here's hoping next week I'll get back into the swing of things!

In the mean time, I recently found this drawing I did way back in high school, about 6 years ago. I went through this phase of copying out of this Jim Lee comic but I never finished this one. So I touched it up and here it is! If I have another 'off' week, I'll work into this more, colour it and give it a proper background.

Gigi Paper Sculpt

Another attempt at this type of '3D' collage. This time it sits in a box frame and is at least half the size of the Moulin Rouge collage. Gigi was on tv the other day which was what inspired me to do this but I really don't think this type of medium has captured the gorgeous design of the original dress worn by Leslie Caron. I will need to design it better next time.
